We Changed Our Name To Honeytiger
We have changed our band's name to Honeytiger. That is a difficult phrase to come to terms with even though we have only been known as Swimmer for a year and a half. We made the hard decision of changing our name after running into numerous problems with our beloved "Swimmer". Those problems included visibility, ease-of-search, bands with very similar names, a defunct band with the exact same name, and some others that I won't get into, but I can share a few of the main factors.
It came down to two factors that put us over the edge for the name change. When we originally put our music on iTunes, Spotify, and all of the other popular music stores/services, we were lumped in with an alternative band from the 90's called Swimmer. Spotify and iTunes (along with everyone else) thought that we were that band, releasing new material. This caused a lot of confusion and immediately we requested to be put onto our own artist page. It took the services some time to do so and by the time they did all of our follows and likes were reserved on the other Swimmer's page and we had to start fresh.
A few months later a Tiesto track that featured a sample of the 90's Swimmer was put on Spotify and appeared on our artist page, not the Swimmer from the 90's where it was supposed to go. We asked Spotify to remove this track from our artist page where our album lived and after a week or so, they finally did. To our sad faces, this once again lost us all of our "followers" which is vital to getting a verified artist page.
The other issue with going by Swimmer when there is another band of that name from the 90s is the risk of being sued. We don't want that. Not one bit.
The next major factor was the amount of "swimmer" related bands that are active. SWMRS, Swimmer, One Swimmer, Great Lakes Swimmers, and many many more. If we told someone that we're Swimmer and they went to find us on the internet, there is just so much to wade through.
Among a few other issues, those two made us feel as though we would be better off changing our name now than wait another year. This was not an easy decision, but one that we feel will help us overall and although we do miss Swimmer, Honeytiger is a good band name.
We have taken our album off of iTunes and Spotify and the other services for the time being during this transition period to Honeytiger, but all of our music can be streamed for free and even 'Pay what you want" download at our bandcamp.
If you loved the name Swimmer, know that we did too. If you hate the name Honeytiger, get outta here, it's a good name cmon man.
Thanks for your support and yeah, we are Honeytiger.
